The music scores and MP3 files on the right are intended to enable our ‘Every Psalm for Easy Singing’ to be used in personal and family worship.
Psalm-singing will never be ‘easy’. As praise and worship of our most holy God, it requires effort. As an expression of love to the Lord, it should be done with all our heart, all our soul and all our mind. However, we believe that with persistence comes a great reward of using the very words of Scripture in our worship and being taught by them as they become impressed upon our minds.
Psalm singing should give sufficient time for the singer to think on the words, and gain blessing from them. Unless this psalter is used many times, the wording will remain unfamiliar. It has to be sung slowly enough for the singer to profit from it.
By using only one metre, it is hoped that the added complication of new words + new music will be avoided, so that the singer’s focus will be on the words. This was the principle adopted by Edmwnd Prys for his Welsh language Psalter (1621) and by the Scottish Metrical Psalter (1650).
All the Psalms in Every Psalm for Easy Singing are set to the 10.10.10.10. metre. This means that they can be sung to all any of the tunes given on this website (and many more).
The following tunes are suggested. Many of the Psalms do not really fit into ‘categories’ and the choice of tune is not overly important. However, some clearly do, and a suitable tune can then be chosen.
Prayerful, Restful and Didactic
Cheerful and Rejoicing
Confident and Strong
Sorrowful and Plaintive
